Tilt-Up Construction
Corporate Images manufactures and distributes ready to assemble furniture for home and business. Corporate Images recently constructed a new long-life, low maintenance industrial facility to meet the needs of their growing business. CTA Design Group was contracted to design and engineer the 208,000 ft2 facility in Surrey, BC. A tilt-up style construction was used for the project considering the size and requirements of the facility. The 8” interior floor slab would be exposed to heavy traffic and loading of a traditional manufacturing & distribution facility. After considering available building materials options, CTA Design Group specified HARD-CEM in the floors.
The project required 3,900 cubic metres of HARD-CEM concrete that would deliver a quality hardened floor and be compatible with bond-breakers required of the tilt-up wall panels. Rempel Bros. supplied the HARD-CEM concrete. Astra Concrete placed and finished the full depth hardened concrete in a series of pours in October 2004. The finishers were very happy with the workability and finish of the HARD-CEM concrete:”it was not spongy which happens when you use shake on hardeners”. The placing crew was also very positive mentioning that compared to conventional shake-on hardeners; there is no dust with HARD-CEM. |
