Air Entrained Concrete

Metro Skate Park is an expansive skate board park constructed in 2004 for the city of Burnaby, British Columbia. This project called for concrete that allowed designers to deliver complex shapes, clean lines and a long lasting quality surface. The project designers space2place and Fulton Engineering recommended HARD-CEM integral concrete hardener in conjunction with EcoSmart concrete for this demanding project.

HARD-CEM which functions as a hard functional filler was added at the Ocean Construction Supplies batch plant ensuring uniform quality control. The complex concrete pour and placement happened over five months. HARD-CEM was added to the concrete mix at a rate of 40kg/m3 for the flatwork and shotcrete. The placers were impressed with the creamy texture and the ease of achieving a high quality smooth finish. Consultants and construction crew involved in this project felt that HARD-CEM contributed to a higher quality and more durable concrete. The expectation is that HARD-CEM will become a standard specification for future skate parks. An EcoSmart construction report is available for this project.
